Why Wiring Quality Matters More Than the Brand on the Box
People spend a lot of time comparing amp brands and subwoofer specs, and not nearly enough time asking how the system is actually going to be wired. That's backwards - wiring quality is often the bigger factor in how a system performs and how long it lasts.
Firewall routing done right
Power wire has to cross from the battery into the cabin somewhere. Done correctly, that's a proper firewall pass-through, sealed and routed away from moving parts and heat. Done poorly, it's a wire jammed through an existing gap and hoping for the best.
Loomed, not zip-tied
Harnesses should be loomed and secured along the vehicle's factory routing paths. Wire zip-tied to whatever's nearby works until it doesn't - vibration over time works connectors loose and can cause noise in your system.
Gauge matters
An underpowered wire run creates voltage drop, which can starve an amp of the power it needs and cause it to underperform or overheat. The correct gauge for the amp's power draw isn't optional.
What to ask before you book an install
Ask any shop how they route power wiring and whether harnesses are loomed or zip-tied. The answer tells you a lot about how the rest of the job will go.
